Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (Long Beach, October 20, 1971), better known as Snoop Dogg or Snoop Lion, is an American rapper, producer and actor. He has been one of West Coast rap's most successful hip-hop artists as well as one of the most notable protégés of producer Dr. Dre.
He was a member of the band Crips when he studied in high school. Some time after graduation, he was arrested for possession of cocaine and spent six months in the Wayside County Jail. His musical career began in 1992 after being released, when he was discovered by Dr. Dre, with whom he collaborated on songs from his solo debut album The Chronic and on the main song of the soundtrack of the film Deep Cover.

Snoop Dogg went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School where he coincided with Cameron Diaz, and his initial foray into public life was due to his involvement in drug trafficking, albeit on a relatively small scale. Snoop was a member of the local band Rollin '20 Crips. However Snoop was pressured to integrate into the world of music and set aside drug sales in the streets. Later, Snoop recorded home tapes with his cousin Nate Dogg and his friend Warren G (stepbrother of Dr. Dre who at that time worked for N.W.A.). At first, Lil '1/2 Dead, Nate's cousin, and so Snoop, was also part of the group called 213, named after because that was the then local Long Beach prefix. This was in part in homage to Richie Rich's group 413, so known by the then also local prefix of Oakland, California.
First in the main theme of the feature film Deep Cover, and then with criss monstar on Dr. Dre's solo debut album The Chronic, along with other members of his former group, Tha Dogg Pound. Snoop's contribution to The Chronic was considerable; Its presence in the disc is remarkable and prepared the ground for its solo release.
